Northern Foods purchases a wide range of raw materials and packaging products both in the UK and from across the world.  

We are one of the largest UK purchasers in many categories including chocolate (20,000 tonnes per annum), cheese (18,000 tonnes per annum), and free range eggs. The majority of goods we buy are from British farmers.

Leveraging our buying scale

Northern Foods leverages its substantial scope and buying scale through its Group Procurement function which is focused on purchasing quality materials, ingredients and services for all Northern Foods sites from approved suppliers at the lowest total cost. This initiative has reduced an overly large supply base and delivered significant cost efficiencies for the Group.

Over the next few years we will continue to consolidate the supply base and work with fewer, more innovative, suppliers that are focused on continually improving efficiency and providing more cost effective solutions.
